what we do
Fuel is a relaxed, approachable French bistro. Our food is based on country French, including items like steak frites and French onion soup. We also offer craft burgers, approachable sandwiches, and our ever popular mac and cheese.
We are passionate about where we purvey our food, and utilize many local growers and suppliers. All of our beef is Midwestern grass-fed, our pork and chicken are hormone and antibiotic-free. We even use nitrate-free bacon – it matters.

We also have a VIP room that seats up to 8 people, and is a private, 3 walled room with a curtain for privacy. relaxed and approachable
Fuel is not stuffy or fancy. Our mission is to provide excellent food and service in a relaxed atmosphere. Fuel has no dress code, we want you to dine comfortably. Our highly trained staff has one goal, guest satisfaction. Come experience excellent French food in an upscale environment, with no attitude.
We love wine at Fuel. Our wine list is one of the largest in the State, and has been awarded the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for 6 years in a row. Fuel is never stuffy about our wine. In fact, we offer 25 bottles for $25 or less. We strive to provide an excellent selection, at excellent prices. Our ever-changing wine by the glass offerings cover all the bases, and our staff is well versed in our selections. Come enjoy a glass with us.
Our dining space is “urban cozy”, with leather chairs and couches in the bar, butcher paper topped linen tables, and French vintage art. We try hard to make our guests very comfortable, while offering unique touches to please the eye.
We spend a lot of time choosing our music, to compliment our urban environment. Classified as ambient, we strive to offer music you won’t hear in any other restaurant in town. You will hear sounds from Telepopmusik, Stephane Pompougnac, Thievery Corporation, De Phazz, and more.
Our building was built in 1871, and was originally a theatre (which seated a thousand people), offices, and retail space. Its a beautiful brick building, with rounded arcade windows, and a slate mansard roof. It’s been completely restored, and has won awards of excellence in restoration by the City of Lewiston and the State of Maine. It’s also individually listed on the National Historic Register.
